A training video production company has a responsibility to ensure that the learning is clear and understandable. Content can be generated by a specialist in a particular field working together with an experienced scriptwriter.

Training videos can involve humour which is sometimes used to drive the point home. But, it should not be patronising, risqué or obtuse. Often a simple, friendly and direct tone linked to straightforward narrative or dialogue is an effective approach to ensure understanding and memory retention.

You may wish to take a different approach to the project and consider using actors. An actor or two in vision is far more interesting than a simple out of vision narration & while it does cost extra, it probably won’t cost as much as you think. There are plenty of actors that are as yet unknown & are quite reasonable regarding their daily fees.

Whatever the direction, broadcast quality video and good production planning ensure our training videos communicate in a cost effective and memorable way.

As with all our productions, training videos can be delivered in a number of ways including videotape, DVD and CD ROM as well as video streaming for the internet/intranet.

To give you an idea of the project production process from conception to completion we have detailed the following processes.

Preparation or more commonly referred to as Pre-Production is the total planning process we go through before any shooting takes place.

The pre-production process is as important as every other aspect of video production, thorough planning and preparation is the only way to ensure a satisfactory programme which will fulfil your requirements.

We have an initial project meeting to establish your audience, message, style & delivery method.

Create treatment - The treatment describes the style, content, objectives and the cost.

Once you are happy with the treatment and quotation we will produce working documents in the form of script, shooting schedule & storyboard. These documents will give you the closest representation of how the finished video production will look. You will have the opportunity to fine tune scripts and storyboards before we commence shooting.

Yes! But what will it cost us?

Following script approval, our producer will liaise with all parties to arrange shooting dates and locations. He will create a shooting schedule which will identify times, crew & extras at each location. The shooting schedule will be created with cost in mind limiting use of each resource to a minimum.

Shooting - We appreciate your busy schedule so our crew will aim to shoot your programme with the minimum disruption. A typical crew would be three, to include cameraman, director & sound engineer, on occasions we may include the services of an autocue operator, production assistant or grip. There are also occasions when only a cameraman is required. We only supply and charge for crew needed to get the job done well.

Post Production - The process of editing the footage into the final training video production. The process will involve:-

Logging & Digitising - Sorting the material & uploading to one of our computerised editing suites.

Editing - Using a software interface we select, order & trim the best shots to construct the programme. We may add music, titles, graphics & voice over as required.

At this stage we concentrate on the content and provide you with time coded approval copies, these can be supplied on either VHS, DVD or via our Internet download service. The latter removes any geographic limitations and allows you to preview video programmes on your desktop.

Mastering - Is where we apply the polish to the programme, after client approval. This will involve increasing the resolution to maximum for the application, going through each edit individually and checking for frame accuracy, colour correcting each frame to take into account varying light conditions on the shoot. We also go through the audio track and make sure all the voice levels are consistent and within tolerance, any music is adjusted so that it fades smoothly and runs at the correct level behind voice over or presenter.

Once we are happy with all the detail above we record the programme to a broadcast quality video tape with appropriate time code for broadcast applications. This then becomes the master that all encoding, CD-Rom & DVD-Authoring is created from. If the programme is to be broadcast or played at an event then this is likely to be played directly from the master tape.

As we create the master from our computer editing system, we can create multiple masters as backup easily.

Once the project is complete we archive all the project data from our edit suite, this means we can easily modify your training video at a later date without the expense of re-editing the entire programme.

THE END
